چکیده
We investigate the mean energy, strength and width of the triple giant dipole resonance using sum rules. We point out that the excitation operator for the triple giant dipole resonance must be modified from the naive choice D 3. With the modified excitation operator, the strength and mean energy calculated in the Tomonaga model agree with the harmonic limit and the width is larger than √ 3 times that of the giant dipole resonance. Had we adopted the naive choice, we would have obtained unphysical results for these quantities. Assuming the absence of a charge exchange component in the nuclear interaction, we derive model independent relationships between the mean energies and strengths of multiple giant dipole resonances, which are an extension of relations derived previously for the double giant dipole resonance. The study of the double giant dipole resonance in nuclei has received a considerable amount of attention over the last 15 years [1]. Both the pion double charge exchange 1

The status of the theoretical research on the compressional modes of finite nuclei and the incompressibility K∞ of nuclear matter, is reviewed. It is argued that the recent experimental data on the Isoscalar Giant Monopole Resonance (ISGMR) allow extracting the value of K∞ with an uncertainity of about ± 15 MeV. Non-relativistic (Skyrme, Gogny) and relativistic mean field models predict for K∞ ...

We construct a three-dimensional analytically soluble model of the nonlinear effects in Coulomb excitation of multiphonon Giant Dipole Resonances (GDR) based on the SU(2,1) algebra. The full 3-dimensional model predicts further enhancement of the Double GDR (DGDR) cross sections at high bombarding energies. Enhancement factors for DGDR measured in thirteen different processes with various proje...

In order to study isovector dipole response of neutron-rich nuclei, we have applied a time-dependent method of antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. The dipole resonances in Be, B and C isotopes have been investigated. In 10 Be, 15 B, 16 C, collective modes of the vibration between a core and valence neutrons cause soft resonances at the excitation energy Ex = 10 − 15 MeV below the giant dipole r...

A new class of giant resonances in nuclei, namely double giant resonances, is discussed. They are giant resonances built on top of other giant resonances. Investigation on their properties, together with similar studies on low-lying two-phonon states, should give an answer on how far the harmonic picture of boson-type excitations holds in the finite fermion systems like atomic nuclei. The main ...

We calculate the cross-section for the excitation and subsequent decay of triple giant resonances (TGDR) in several nuclei excited with heavy ions. The recently developed coherent plus incoherent theory for the excitation in conjunction with the hybrid decay model of Dias-Hussein-Adhikari are used for the purpose. It is emphasized that the direct decay of the TGR is expected to deviate apprecia...
